Telescopic loader
The telehandler is a handling machine for several uses: agricultural use, public works, masonry and construction trades.
Source
The first all-terrain forklift was created in 1958 by André Braud and Henri Fochot. In 1981, Braud-Faucheux became the Manitou Group and produced its first telehandler based on forklifts and agricultural tractors.
Operation
A telehandler is a machine with four wheels of the same size for better traction when pushing. This is a piece of equipment that uses its hydraulic pump to pressurize the hydraulic oil, which pushes the cylinder pistons. The control in the cab allows you to maneuver the boom and its tools, raise, lower, lower, roll back, unfold or fold the boom and jack for each of the stabilizing legs. Do not confuse telescopic handlers and forklifts , which have different lifting devices and lifting devices. Unlike a telehandler, a forklift only allows you to move loads vertically.
Characteristics
This machine can be equipped with several tools: multi-functional grapple, digging bucket, pallet forks, straw bale pick-ups, lifting basket. The telehandler can also be equipped with two or four wheel drive for easy forward manoeuvres.
In some cases, it can be equipped with special auxiliary tools such as straw decoiler blower, straw blower or concrete mixer. This machine can be fitted with stabilizing spikes to stabilize this material when using the hand on the end of the boom.
Classification and sale
The number of telehandlers corresponds to the lifting height and maximum load capacity. For example, for the Merlo Turbo Farmer 34.7 TOP 34 corresponds to a 3.4 ton lift and a lift height of 7 meters.
Telehandlers are classified according to their lifting capacity using a chart that lists boom height and boom length. They often have a powershift transmission preceded by a torque converter. The disadvantage of hydrostatic transmission is its economy, especially on the road.
Annual sales of telehandlers range from three thousand to four thousand machines, increasing in recent years. The telescopic loader has gradually replaced the front loader on large livestock and grain farms. Today it occupies an important place in agriculture.
Telehandlers are sold under several brands: XCMG, Caterpillar, Claas, Genie, Haulotte, Deutz-Farh, Dieci, JCB, Manitou, JLG, Massey-Fergusson, Merlo, Faresin and CNH.
Today, the telehandler competes with wheel loaders.
